About Crown Green Bowling
Crown green bowls is a game that can be played by people of all ages and abilities. It offers the health benefits of gentle exercise, mental concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and, of course, the social interaction with other members.

It is very different from lawn bowls, the main differences being that the crown of the green affects the path of the bowl, and that players can chose to bowl to any part of the green and at any length (subject to a minimum distance).
Dress code is informal, the only stipulation is to wear flat shoes so as not to damage the green.
One player begins by bowling the ‘jack’ – a smaller ball. The same player then sends their own bowl (or ‘wood’) and is followed by their opponent. Each player has two bowls and the winner of an ‘end’ is the player who is closest to the jack. If a player has one bowl closer than their opponent they score a point. If they has two bowls closer than their opponents nearest bowl then they score two points. The winner is the first player to score 21 points. The game is often played as doubles with two players on each side. In doubles, one player from each side bowls both their bowls before the second pair bowl.
